Since opening its doors in 2006, STEP has been a local and national leader in early psychosis research and treatment. The program recently completed a 5 year, NIH funded, early detection campaign, known as Mindmap. The Mindmap campaign aimed to shorten the time between onset of psychosis and entry into effective treatment (the duration of untreated psychosis, or DUP) in the greater New Haven area.
In 2020, with the support of various funders (listed below), STEP established the Connecticut Early Psychosis Learning Health network, to further the mission of improving the lives of young people impacted by early psychosis across Connecticut.

Our Mission.

Connecticut Early Psychosis Learning Health Network's mission is to support workforce development and community education throughout the state of Connecticut to transform access, care quality, and outcomes for individuals and families impacted by recent onset psychosis.

What is a 'learning health network'?

A learning health network is a set of organizations and individuals such as: early intervention services, community clinics, mental health providers, educational institutions, youth and community organizations, family, consumers, & advocacy groups, that interact to deliver a system of care (e.g., early intervention services for young people with early psychosis).

What is a 'system of care'?

A 'System of Care' is defined as, “a set of activities with a commons set of objectives” (Srihari et al., 2016)

(Srihari & Cahill, 2020)

What are 'pathways to (and through) care'?

Pathways are the routes that patients follow through the network, it is what the patient and families experience (e.g., a referral from a PCP to a specialty early psychosis clinic) (Srihari, et al., 2016)
