Our Mission.
The purpose of the STEP Learning Collaborative is for all persons with schizophrenia to live fulfilling lives. We aim to do this by partnering with agencies across Connecticut to deliver a system of care that provides rapid access to high quality treatment. Activities of this collaborative include workforce development, stakeholder outreach, informatics, care model refinement, and building sustainable care models. We adopt a population health approach, regularly measuring outcomes, striving for international standards, and addressing access and quality disparities.
What is a 'learning collaborative'?
The STEP Learning Collaborative is a community of organizations and individuals such as: early intervention services, community clinics, mental health providers, educational institutions, youth and community organizations, first-responders, family, consumers, & advocacy groups that work together around the common goal of supporting young people with early psychosis
The STEP Learning Collaborative aims to:
- Provide workforce development of community mental health providers to increase the capacity of early psychosis treatment across Connecticut.
- Support community education and outreach to promote awareness, early detection, and rapid access to care for early psychosis.
- Educate and empower families and caregivers impacted by early psychosis with knowledge, skills and support through workshops and virtual resources
- Better understand the needs of learning collaborative stakeholders through feedback and needs assessment

What is a 'system of care'?
A 'System of Care' is defined as, “a set of activities with a commons set of objectives” (Srihari et al., 2016)
What are 'pathways to (and through) care'?
Pathways are the routes that patients follow through the network, it is what the patient and families experience (e.g., a referral from a PCP to a specialty early psychosis clinic) (Srihari, et al., 2016)
